Sunsets at Lake Monroe
Some evenings you just have to stop and watch the sky. These were taken over a few summer nights along Lake Monroe, near Sanford and out into Seminole County, Florida — a stretch of waterfront where the light seems to slow down before it lets go of the day.
I keep coming back here for the walk more than the photos. The path curves right along the water, the lampposts flick on as the sky turns, and the lake goes so still it doubles everything above it.
Golden hour on the water
There's a moment when the sun drops low enough to sit right on the horizon, and the whole lake catches fire in the softest way. The clouds pull the color up and outward, and for a few minutes it feels like the day is holding its breath.
I love how the old dock pilings turn into silhouettes at this hour. They give the water a sense of scale and history — a reminder that people have been coming to this shore long before I showed up with a camera.
A pink moon rising
On one of these evenings, the moon came up on the opposite side, glowing pink over the waterfront while a lamppost held its own little pool of warm light. It felt like the sky was putting on two shows at once.
The walk home
By the time the sun is gone, the colors soften into pastels and the lampposts take over. This is my favorite part — the crowds thin out, the air cools down, and the lake settles into a quiet blue-and-orange calm along the railing and grasses.
If you're ever near Sanford in the evening, do yourself a favor and walk down to the water. Lake Monroe never seems to run out of ways to end the day.
